Alexis Steeves is an American contemporary dance artist living in Tallinn, Estonia. Alexis is honored to have danced for Daniel McCusker, Susan Osberg, Onye Ozuzu, Noemie LaFrance, Bryan Hayes, Beth Simons, Fine5 Tantsuteater (Estonia) and Cid Pearlman. Her own choreography and collaborative endeavors have been presented by Monster Movement Collective (founding member) in St. Marks Church (NYC), Brooklyn Arts Exchange, BRIC (Brooklyn), Mark Morris Dance Studio and Kanuti Gildi Saal (Estonia). Alexis' current aesthetic exploration is an ardent attempt to provoke the musings in the back of her mind to step into the foreground and start living their own lives.
Alexis spent the better part of childhood lingering too long in the brisk Atlantic waves of coastal Maine(USA). Alexis graduated from Bard College (New York) in 2001 with a BA in contemporary dance choreography and earned a certification in massage therapy from the Desert Institute of Healing Arts (Arizona) in 2003. After moving to Tallinn, Estonia in 2009 Alexis established "Body of Knowledge Movement and Massage", an enterprise which anchors her work as a movement educator (dance, yoga) and professional massage therapist. Alexis currently teaches for the Tallinn University Institute of Fine Arts, Prodance Studio and Tantsuakadeemia as well as private workshops and classes in Estonia.
